Vogue & Contemporary
Ralph Escamillan is a queer, Canadian-Filipinx performance artist/choreographer/teacher and community leader based in Vancouver, BC. He is trained in ballet, modern dance, jazz, and various street dance styles, and is a graduate of Modus Operandi—a Vancouver-based Contemporary Dance program.
Ralph has worked and toured with Company 605, Co. Erasga Dance, Kinesis Dance Somatheatro and Out Innerspace Theatre, and apprenticed with Kidd Pivot in 2014. He is currently on contract with Wen Wei Dance, Mascall Dance and was a guest dancer for Ballet BC.
In the commercial industry, he’s worked with choreographers including AJ Aakomon, Luther Brown, Paul Becker, Tucker Barkely and Mandy Moore as well as artists Victoria Duffield and Zendaya Coleman, and was a guest dancer for Janet Jackson’s “Unbreakable” tour in 2015.
Through his company FakeKnot he creates work that strives to understand the complexities of identity using sound, costume, technology and the body. He is currently working on his second full length work ‘whip’ set to premiere at the MAI (Montreal) in the fall of 2021.
Ralph ‘Posh’ Gvasalia Lanvin has been in the Ballroom Scene since 2014, opening his own kiki House of Gvasalia. As the founder and Artistic/Executive Director of the non-profit organization VanVogueJam, Ralph shares his passion for Vogue/Ballroom culture at his weekly pay-what-you-can classes and vogue balls, acting as a beacon for the queer dance form in Western Canada.
