Jill Henis


Dancer, Choreographer, Director, Teacher, Adjudicator and Performer with over 35 years of Dance study, performance and investigation Jill’s employment as a Dance artist has included: Classical Ballet companies, Contemporary companies and independent contracts spanning the mediums of Stage, Film, Theatre and Television. Her work has taken her throughout South-East Asia, The United States, Cuba and Australia. Though much of jill's performing career has been abroad she has created and performed throughout Canada. ~ an abbreviated list: Dancing on the Edge, 12 Minutes Max, Press Play, Blue Earth Project, Dances for a Small Stage, Toronto’s Fringe Festival, Creative Dominion Society’s Launch Pad, B.C. Buds Spring Arts Fair, Dance Montage, Springboard’s Fluid Festival, Annual Alberta Dance Festival and Telus Sparks’ “Junkyard Symphony”. jill has taught aspiring through to professional Dancers for over 20years. For five of those years, she taught regularly for Vancouver’s Harbour Dance Centre. This opportunity provided immense pleasure for jill as she was able to guide classes for Dancers of varying experience including professional Dance Artists from around the world. In 2009 jill founded her Contemporary Dance Company mixOLOGYdanceMine. A launching point for mixOLOGY was being awarded the title of “Primary Dance Company” for Saskatoon’s 2010 Olympic Torch Ceremony Celebrations. Since it’s inception, mixOLOGY has choreographed and presented over two dozen works including five full length Performances. Now the “Company in Residence” at North Calgary Dance Centre, the company works full time along with offering consistent adult oriented drop in classes to the community of movers. Jill’s teaching style looks to unveil individuality while emphasizing our connection to; space, alignment, impulses (both internal & external), fluidity, musicality, breath, the articulation of the spine and how these choices ultimately inform vocabulary & expression.
