Elysia Matheson

Elysia Matheson grew up dancing in her hometown of North Vancouver, BC where she trained inall genres of dance at Vanleena Dance Academy. At 16, Elysia was accepted into the Source Dance Company under the direction of Joanne Pesusich, offering many performance opportunities throughout Vancouver including the Vancouver International Dance Festival and Vancouver Fashion Week.  Elysia was also a part of Ruckus Company Productions with Brock Jellison, for his premiere show, 77 Mins. In 2011, Elysia was one of 140 dancers to travel to Toronto, ON for the finals of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Season 4. With much of her professional training coming from Harbour Dance Centre, Elysia has also had opportunities to travel for dance, including studying at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, the Edge Performing Arts Centre in Los Angeles, Broadway Dance Centre and Steps in New York City. Currently, Elysia is on faculty with North Shore Academy of Dance, Deas Island Dance Centre, and Harbour Dance in downtown Vancouver.

Jacq Smith

Movement and performance have been integral parts of Jacq’s life since the age of 4. She has studied numerous styles of dance throughout her life and is a graduate of the Edmonton School of Ballet's professional program. Jacq has trained independently in voice, acting, circus and many other artistic disciplines, and is consistently expanding her repertoire in the performing arts. She recently studied with Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, participating in The Creative Gesture, a dance and choreography residency.

Jacq has performed throughout North America alongside companies such as the Alberta Ballet, Gateway Theatre, and 49th Parallel Dance Company. Select credits include: Workspace III (the response.), Yellowpoint Christmas Spectacular (Razzle Dazzle), The Lady M (Bard Lab/Bard on The Beach), Anything Goes (RCMT), Watering Hole (49th Parallel Dance), and the award-winning production of Crazy For You (Gateway).

Jacq instructs and choreographs for dancers at studio, pre-professional and professional levels and shares her love of dance with everyone she encounters. Select choreography credits include: West Side Story (Asst. Choreography – TUTS), SEASONS (Magical Musical Prod.), Cabaret (Asst. Choreography – RCMT), Six Word Stories (The Lovers Cabaret), and Brilliant (St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation). She lives to create lines on the body and tell stories through her work.

Theatre Jazz class will focus on a theatrical style of dancing that combines the songs of Broadway musicals, from past to present, with the movement of jazz. The class is based on jazz technique layered with Broadway-style and includes warm-up, stretches, across-the floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will be placed on connecting with an audience and telling a story. It’s the perfect class for both Broadway enthusiasts and those in the musical theatre world.
